Ring Plan Cost: What You Actually Pay Per Month, Per Year, and Per Device
By Kanika Modi · Part of the Ring guides · Last verified 29 Oct 2026 against ring.com’s official plans page · 2 sources
Ring’s prices are simple; the math around them is where money gets wasted. People pay Basic on three devices when Standard would be cheaper, or pay monthly for years when yearly would have saved them a sixth of the bill. This page does the arithmetic once so you do not have to.
The Current Prices
| Plan | Per Month | Per Year | Yearly Saving vs Monthly | Covers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $4.99 | $49.99 | $9.89 (about 17%) | One device |
| Standard | $9.99 | $99.99 | $19.89 (about 17%) | All devices at one location |
| Premium | $19.99 | $199.99 | $39.89 (about 17%) | All devices at one location, plus Alarm monitoring |
Prices are US figures from ring.com’s plans page at the verification date. Sales tax, where applicable, is added at checkout. Ring sells these as Ring Home and is renaming them Ring Protect; the numbers are identical under both names.
Cost per Device: The Two-Device Rule
Basic is priced per device, Standard per address. That makes the comparison a single multiplication:
| Devices | Basic on Each | Standard | Cheaper Choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $4.99/mo | $9.99/mo | Basic |
| 2 | $9.98/mo | $9.99/mo | Effectively equal; Standard also covers future devices |
| 3 | $14.97/mo | $9.99/mo | Standard, saving $4.98/mo |
| 4 | $19.96/mo | $9.99/mo | Standard, saving $9.97/mo |
From the second device, Standard wins or ties, and it wins outright from the third. Ring’s own plan page does not spell this out; it is the single most common overpayment on Ring accounts.
Monthly or Yearly?
Every tier’s yearly price equals ten months of the monthly price, so paying annually is two months free, roughly a 17% discount. The trade is flexibility: cancelling mid-year depends on a prorated refund, which Ring’s policy does not formally guarantee (see how to cancel). If you are confident you will keep the doorbell for a year, yearly is the obvious choice; if you are trialling Ring or may move, pay monthly for a few months first.
Is Premium Worth $10 More?
Premium’s extra $10 a month over Standard buys 24/7 professional monitoring for Ring Alarm and Ring’s newest AI features. Without a Ring Alarm system, the monitoring has nothing to monitor, so the decision reduces to whether the AI features alone are worth $120 a year. For most doorbell-only households, no; for an Alarm household that wants dispatch on a break-in, Premium is competitively priced against standalone monitoring services.
Where Prices Have Moved
If you see older articles quoting $3 or $10 plans, those were the earlier Ring Protect Basic and Plus prices before Ring’s restructuring. Current entry pricing is $4.99, and the tier names changed as well. Any review or comparison that does not carry a recent date should be assumed to be out of date; our verification date is at the top of this page.
